Create a Marvelous Melody, Man!
Objective: Students will be able to create a 2 or more Bar melodic sequence using the Ableton Push Launchpad.

Load an Instrument Pack:
Push the "Browse" Button
Choose "Instrument Pack" from the top left menu on your launchpad screen
Choose which instrument pack you would like to play with by turning the nob, or pushing the small narrow buttons below the list. If you cannot hear the preview for the pack, make sure the far right narrow button in the second row from the top is highlighted blue and not white. (Thank you Emily Licht!!!)
Press the Green button to load the pack then the "browse" button again to exit the menu.
Using the Metronome, create and record a melody that is at least 8 beats long.
A metronome is a beep that will keep track of your steady beat for you. To turn this on, Push the "Metronome" Button that is second from the top on the left.

To adjust the Volume of your annoying beeping sound (AKA Metronome):
Play around with your musical ideas until you think of a melody to record (don't let this take ALL Period!)
To record: Press the record button and play your melody.
If your recording is not what you wanted, you can "undo" your last recording:

Save your ALS file and your WAV file and submit BOTH files in Canvas.
Save your ALS file:
In Ableton:
File/Save Live Set As/Your first names and last initial, class name, Melody (Jill L 1A Melody)
Make sure the "Where" is set to your folder in the "Documents" Folder.
Save your WAV file:
In Ableton:
File/Export Audio/Make sure file type is set to WAV/Export/Name your file Your first names and last initial, class name, Melody (Jill L 1A Melody) (same as the ALS file)
and make sure the "Where" is set to your folder in the "Documents" Folder. (again, same as ALS file)
Submit, in Canvas, BOTH the ALS AND the WAV files by clicking on "add another file" so there are TWO file boxes to upload in, DO NOT add the 2nd file to the
comment box. The only thing you need the comment box for is to tell me how much you love this class. ;)
Evaluation:
5 points for a Melody that is at least 2 bars long
5 points for Creativity (that means you didn't just pound on all of the buttons, you actually gave your melody some creative thought)
5 points for an ALS file submitted
5 points for a WAV file submitted
