Creating the sound to a video
If You Choose to Create Sound for a Video To find a video that you would like to use in your project:
If you are on a PC: Click here to download videos from dropbox.
If you are on a Mac: Click here to download videos from google drive
For Inspiration Click here to go to our Youtube Channel's 6th Grade Final Project Playlist
Save the video to your Class Folder by clicking the 3 little horizontal dots at the bottom right corner of your screen, click those/ download/ down arrow next to save/ save as/ navigate to your tsf music folder.
OPEN YOUR MIXCRAFT or GARAGEBAND PROGRAM
Open your class folder over top of the program and drag/drop the video file onto the program.
If the video has a sound file attached to it, you will need to unlink the audio file from the video file and delete the audio file. Do this by right clicking in the audio loop/link (4th from the top) / unlink (last one at the bottom. Delete the audio track by right clicking on the track, by the track info, and choosing ‘delete’. (or mute this track... ;) )
Play your video and sound by clicking on the play button at the bottom. To view the video playing, click on ‘show video window’ button that is on the video track. You can adjust the size of the video window by clicking and dragging at the bottom corner of the screen. You can also move the video window to a different place on your monitor by clicking and dragging at the narrow top area.
Adding a ‘marker’ to your composition can be a helpful tool for you, the composer, in Mixcraft. A marker can be used to mark a point in the composition that you want to add or change something. It can also be used to indicate different tempos or changes to your composition. To add a marker, right click in the time line at the top (your time button should probably always be indented instead of the beats one anyway…) click ‘add marker’. You can change the tempo in this screen or just title the marker with whatever it is that you wanted to remember about the composition. Click ‘ok’ and you will see that the marker is a yellow line with a flag that stretches the entire length of the composition, through each track.
SOUND EFFECTS need to be added for every action that happens in the video. For example: If someone sneezes, you need to hear them, if a door shuts, you hear it...
If you cannot find sounds that you are looking for you can go to these sights that I have set up an account for:
FreeSound.org (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site. - Login: emsmusictech PW: student - LOTS of great sound effects and easy search engine! Download them to your TSF/Music Folder then click 'sound' at the top of your Mixcraft Program to add them!

Additional sights can be found at Links (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site. under "Music Downloads". However, most of these sights will not work while at school thanks to "Smoothwall"...
Most videos will sound the best if there is a ‘music bed’ throughout the video. This is background music that is quietly played throughout the video. Have music of your choice playing throughout, mix it up, add/change some music to the music bed, be selective and mix it to be in the style of the video. Add sound effects on top of all of this to compliment what is going on in the video. Compare your work to the original soundtrack for cartoons such as “Tom and Jerry” or “The Pink Panther”.
SAVE OFTEN!!! If the computer crashes, it will take everything that you have been working on with it! Save to your class folder AND somewhere else that is NOT on the computer. Such as emailing yourself the zip file, submitting it to the "Back That Up" assignment on canvas, or upload it to your onedrive. Name your file with your first and last name (and your partner’s if you have one) class name, Movie (for example: Jill Lyman 1A Movie)
(20 points)
When you are finished, save the project to your class folder in documents and convert your project!
Convert your project to a WMV (for PC) or MP4 (for Mac). (20 points)
To do this in Mixcraft: go to file/mix down to/WMV (NOT MP3 - that is an audio file!). Follow the directions to save the file to your class folder. Make sure you title your project with your name and the name of your project (Jill Lyman Movie) This mixing process ‘glues’ your video and audio together and can now be viewed in windows media player or experienced on any other computer.
ALSO Convert your mixcraft project to a zip file by going to file/copy project files to/zip file then answer 'yes' to all questions.
You will be turning in BOTH the MP4 (video) AND the zip file to the appropriate Assignment for each of them.
To do this in Garageband: go to File/Movie/Export Audio to Movie. Save your project with your names and name of project in your class folder.
Submit your MP4 (video file) AND your garageband file to the appropriate assignments!
